- A leader in data, Thomson brings expertise to help scale Uplight’s products as the energy world rapidly evolves
Boulder, Colo – June 24, 2020
Uplight, the leader in delivering modern customer energy experiences for utilities, today announced the appointment of Ronnie Thomson as Chief Technology Officer for the company. Bringing more than 20 years of experience helping technical teams scale and deliver, Thomson will help Uplight accomplish its mission to accelerate the clean energy system.
“Uplight has the largest R&D budget focused on customer energy management in the world today, and Ronnie Thomson brings the leadership we need to further enable utilities to reimagine the customer experience,” said Adrian Tuck, CEO of Uplight. “I‘m excited to have Ronnie lead our Product Development organization, consisting of nearly 200 talented employees around the globe, so that we can deliver more innovation to our customers.”
Most recently, Thomson served as the CTO of ZOLL Data where he led the revision of the technical architecture and scaled the engineering and product organizations. Thomson was also Senior Vice President of Engineering for PeopleFluent, where he supported the due diligence process in the acquisition of seven organizations and led the integration of 12 different product roadmaps into a single delivery model.
In 2020, Uplight will continue its focus on helping its utility customers navigate rapidly changing energy usage from end users during COVID-19. Early responses have been successful for Uplight customers, including remessaging for outbound communications, new offers like zero-cost thermostats and virtual assessments on the marketplace for energy users spending much more time in their homes, and program manager preparation for an increased residential demand response cooling season. As the pandemic impacts continue to unfold, Uplight is working with its customers to use key touchpoints to address other key customer challenges, including new billing program rollouts, DSM savings and operational optimization. Thomson’s previous experience as a leader in data analytics will be crucial as Uplight delivers new offerings that assess the changing needs of utilities and their customers, and develops the best ways to address them.
“What drew me to Uplight was the mission of helping the economy transition to a more sustainable, environmentally friendly one by changing how people use energy. I believe Uplight is uniquely positioned to help customers make smarter decisions about their energy usage,” said Ronnie Thomson, CTO of Uplight. “Uplight has a strategic advantage as a leader in data science to understand how customers use and think about energy. This has been especially critical during substantive residential and C&I energy usage changes due to the pandemic. Now is the time to double down on helping our utility customers by better leveraging their data to prepare for this year and the next 10 years down the road.”
