Orange & Rockland Expands Online Marketplace: Instant rebates now available on a variety of energy-efficient products

By Yoav Lurie on

Orange & Rockland (O&R), and its digital marketing partner, Simple Energy, introduced to O&R’s online store a new product line designed to make saving energy and money both easy and affordable.

The O&R and Simple Energy partnership is part of a pilot program O&R has conceived to more closely align its energy-efficiency efforts with the New York State Public Service Commission’s (PSC) “Reforming Energy Vision” (REV) initiatives to modernize the state’s energy utility industry. Among those initiatives are programs to motivate and empower customers to better understand and take control of their energy use.

O&R’s online store, My ORU Store, which launched earlier this year, now offers O&R’s 200,000 residential customers a wider array of energy-saving products. Those products include LED lighting packs, water conservation products and advanced power strips, in addition to the smart thermostats already available.

Through the store, eligible New York customers can receive an instant rebate of up to $48 on energy saving products and can receive a further rebate of $85 when they enroll their smart thermostat in O&R’s innovative Bring Your Own Thermostat program.

Simple Energy’s Marketplace, which powers My ORU Store, is a useful tool that makes energy efficiency easier and more affordable for both utility providers and customers. This ecommerce solution not only increases product awareness and rebate redemptions, but it also helps utilities meet energy reduction targets while increasing customer engagement at a reduced cost.

“We created Simple Energy Marketplace to fill a void that has existed for too long between utility and customer,” said Yoav Lurie, CEO and Founder at Simple Energy. “Every person’s energy usage is unique, and how their utility communicates with them should reflect that.”

Later this spring, O&R and Simple Energy plan to offer an Engagement Platform, My ORU Advisor, for select customers. The program introduces those customers to new energy-saving techniques and rewards them for their efforts and energy savings. Through an interactive website powered by Simple Energy software, plus email and/or paper Energy Insights messages distributed by Simple Energy, My ORU Advisor will help customers better understand their household energy consumption through personalized usage data and comparisons, efficiency tips and savings incentives.
