Consumers Energy in Michigan has a big goal: to help their customers decrease their energy usage by 2% each year. To do that they need a technology partner like Uplight to increase energy savings for customers–all with a personalized, connected customer experience.

Consumers launched an Orchestrated Energy pilot in 2019 as part of a plan to provide demand flexibility while the utility begins its transition to 90 percent renewables. The utility achieved an average of nearly 75 percent of available load shifted per 4-hour event–resulting in an average of 1.2 kW of demand reduction per home. After a successful pilot, the utility decided to expand the program and also has other Uplight solutions, including:

  • A Marketplace so that customers can purchase energy-related products and services.
  • Orchestrated Energy to shift 20-40% more load during peak usage.
  • Home Energy Reports that offer personalized energy insights and recommendations for customers.
  • Residential and business web portals that show usage information, rate education, and targeted recommendations.
